Description

[LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865)]. The Lincoln Funeral in ALBANY. 4 stereoviews featuring buildings draped in mourning, incl. 3 credited to Haines, Albany, NY.

4 stereoviews on yellow mounts, 3 with partly printed paper labels on verso accomplished in ink and credited to Haines of Albany.

Includes: A frontal, street-level view of the State House draped in morning. Uncredited, but with pencil inscriptions identifying the scene on recto and verso. -- A view of State Street, with sidewalk dotted by a handful of early onlookers likely hoping to see a glimpse of the funeral procession upon its arrival. Haines's Paper label on verso numbers the view 49 and provides manuscript title: "State St. Albany N.Y. Capital[?] in distance." Multiple clocks hang from storefronts on the viewer's left. -- And 2 views of Broadway Street, showing offices and storefronts draped in mourning. Haines's paper labels number the views 51 and 52 respectively, and provide the same manuscript title for both: "Broadway Albany N.Y. North from Argus Building." Both views also feature ink inscriptions separate from paper labels on verso, likely from a previous owner, "Eliza R. James." -- Together, 4 stereoviews.
